What Conor & The GreensKeepers bring to their music is authentic grit from life experience, swaddled in live instruments and nu-jazz combinations. Conor’s evolution from MC to DJ to Vocalist to jazz band leader has only fed the lessons his music portrays. Birmingham in his heart and Manchester in his step, he offers kindness with the footnote of ‘stay strong, you’ve got this’.

Jazz, UKG, Disco, Soul, Rap, Reggae, Grime…the list continues: Conor & The GreensKeepers dance across the musicality that exists in the heart of UK and world music. Rooted in their ‘Garden’ ethos, the band is finding its path one song at a time.

The GreensKeepers Jam offers the stage to attendees and provides a space to play unscripted, improv compositions with the band, as well as the wider GreensKeepers Community. It has been a weekly event at Stage & Radio throughout 2024 and was previously at Joshua Brookes and Canvas, Oxford Road.

Come along and you can decide on the day if you want to be involved; there will be regular rotations throughout the evening based on who is in the room and what positions in the set up are available. Please message @thegreenskeepersband or @conorthegreenskeeper on Instagram if you have any questions.

The GreensKeepers Jam is rooted in jazz and takes a journey around styles to find unique cue points for those playing to show their flair and individuality. All are welcome, and kindness and consideration are a must, with a strict policy of good vibes only – which means no unnecessary swearing or profanities if possible.

Conor & The GreensKeepers have received endorsement from: Giles Peterson, Don Letts, Benji B & Deb Grant across BBC radio stations, as well as other features on Worldwide FM (Selassie), NTS Radio (ShyClart), & Rinse FM (Mr. Redley).

“It takes you on a journey of the unexpected, but one that is filled with exceptional surprises and songs that stay with you indefinitely.” – Clash

Anna Chandler-King with the Flawd House Band

Flawd

Anna Chandler-King saxophone / Bim Williams guitar / Andy Patterson double bass / Ruben Sheridan drums

Anna is a jazz saxophonist based in Leeds. She has a deep passion for a broad variety of genres; performing heavily improvised contemporary music, roasting at high tempos or pulling out a Johnny Hodges impression.

Her musical approach has always been to take lessons from the many parts of this music she loves, and to tie it together with an emotive, melodic approach.

Whilst she normally makes sure she plays at least one composition by Charles Mingus on every gig, this time she’ll be bringing a set almost entirely comprised of his works, joined by the Flawd House Band. Expect some of his classics and some deep cuts.

“Particularly impressive was Anna Chandler on alto, who soared like an early Art Pepper or Paul Desmond – keep an eye out for her, she’s the absolute real deal.” – Lance Liddle, Bebop Spoken Here

Zawedde

Band on the Wall (Copper Bar Stage)

Philippa Zawe vocals, guitar / Alicia Gardener-Trejo flute, bass flute / Lucy Samuels cello / Nathan Bragg bass / Max Tomlinson drums

Zawedde is a Yorkshire-based singer-songwriter of Ugandan heritage, and her songwriting is inspired by the rich stories that are told around her and that lie within her.

Her songs are rooted in the genre of Folk with an infusion of Soul. Her inspirations vary from the likes of Terry Callier to Joan Armatrading, Nick Drake to Laura Marling. Her music has been described as “audio self-care at its finest” (Two Story Melody, 2018).

In September 2017, Zawedde released her debut EP Road of Hope; a tale of loss, grief, and hope found along the way. Shortly after that, in May 2018, Zawe then released a full band EP titled Disadvantaged.

2020, a year of ups and downs, saw Zawedde take listeners on an introspective journey full of hope and contradictions through her releases Dark Am I, Yet Lovely and Lay It All Down.

She has performed across Birmingham (UK) while making a few appearances in Sheffield and London. In 2019, she made her first appearance at Moseley Folk Festival. In 2021, she performed at the 3rd Edition of Musika Na Kipaji in Goma, DRC. In 2022, she graced the performance spaces of Hadisi Urban Festival and co-produced and performed in Les Narratrices at Goma’s L’institut Français.

Would You Lean is the most recent single by Zawedde from her upcoming EP – Shudder Pt. I.

On 23 and 24 March 2023, Zawe produced two EP launch events at Doncaster’s The Point and Birmingham’s MAC on the respective dates.

One audience member from the Doncaster event said: “Great night, very impressed with all performers and was better than other concerts I’ve paid up to £20 for.”

Following on from this, she performed in Birmingham’s prestigious Town Hall, the largest audience she’s performed for. Not only that, but she also opened for one of Zawe’s biggest inspirations, Grammy Award-winning and Pulitzer Prize winner Rhiannon Giddens.

“Zawe’s expressive and eloquent vocals are backed up by a who’s who roster of Birmingham musicians for a result that wows the listener from the first note.” – Glide Magazine, 2022
