Alina Bzhezhinska harp / Tony Kofi saxophone / Larry Bartley bass / Joel Prime drums

Undoubtedly one of the leading harpists in the world today, Alina Bzhezhinska is a one-woman powerhouse, on a mission to bring the harp to the fore of contemporary sound – as a performer, composer, band leader and founder of the contemporary music platform HipHarpCollective. Together, they create a sound that can penetrate any size venue, any genre, any generation, and any musical taste; drawing as much from 90s Triphop and Afrobeat as Dorothy Ashby’s ‘Afro-harping’ and Alice Coltrane & Joe Henderson’s free form jazz experimentation.

Having studied both classical and jazz music across Europe and the USA, Bzhezhinska stormed to prominence in the UK jazz scene when her quartet appeared at the Barbican during the EFG London Jazz Festival 2017, alongside Denys Baptiste and Pharoah Sanders – nominated for ‘Best Live Experience of the Year’ at the Jazz FM Awards.

Bzhezhinska went on to produce her critically-acclaimed debut album, Inspiration (Ubuntu Music), featuring award winning saxophonist Tony Kofi, going on to represent the UK with her quartet at the WOMADelaide Festival in Australia, and giving performances for BBC Radio 3, Edinburgh International Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, the Royal Albert Hall, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Cadogan Hall and the Jazz Cafe to name but a few. A truly genre-defying musician, her collaborators include Kamaal Williams, DJ Spinna, Shabaka Hutchings, Ursula Rucker, Ben Marc, Niki King, Django Bates, The Third Orchestra – there’s no limits to where Alina’s music can go!

“It’s well-known in rap and hip-hop circles that, along with James Brown and George Clinton, Wesley is one of the most sampled musicians in the world today” – Timothy White, Billboard.

Fred Wesley and James Brown’s backing band The J.B.’s head to Manchester for a rare lesson in the history of funk.

Beginning his career with Ike and Tina Turner, he later became musical director, arranger and composer for the Godfather of funk himself, James Brown, and played with Parliament-Funkadelic.

Wesley became the world’s most famous sideman through his work with Brown, defining the language of funk for years to come and later taking it to the next level alongside George Clinton and Bootsy Collins. Join us in the company of a living legend.

It may be Manchester but there’s no reason why we can’t pretend we are in an exotic city, listening to the Latin vibes of the Cuba Vida Salsa Band, led by the fantastic Jesus Moreau Batallan!

The Cuba Vida Salsa Band is an exciting group offering a unique sound emerging from Latin, Jazz, Funk, Reggae-Ton and Salsa music. The exhilarating line up of vocalists, keys, effects, saxophone, and drums promise an authentic Salsa Party from start to end. With all three musicians having roots in the genre and its culture, any audience is sure to be impressed by their musicianship and showmanship, along with the stories they tell about the music they play.

Never failing to bring an extraordinary atmosphere either on or off the dance floor, expect both classic and modern Latin music (Timba), originating from Cuba.
