Secret Night Gang is a joyful slice of jazz-inflected soul, reflecting today’s genre-blending sensibilities in a heavy mix of gospel, R&B, soul, and jazz, led by the songwriters/musicians Kemani Anderson and Callum Connell. “We describe our sound as limitless; it’s not set in one genre but pays homage to our favourite music and musicians,” says Anderson.

“We write open-ended tunes to allow the listener to find themselves in the music. But most of all, it’s not music to think to – it’s music to dance to,” adds Connell.

Handpicked from Manchester’s vibrant live music scene in 2021 by legendary broadcaster, DJ, producer, and label head Gilles Peterson, the band has been championed by a wide range of tastemakers, including Rolling Stone, Clash magazine, Jazz FM, Jamie Cullum, and Bandcamp.  Later that year saw the release of their first self-titled album and a nomination for Breakthrough Act of the Year at the Jazz FM Awards, as well as a nomination for the Worldwide FM Awards for Track of the Year.

Selling out shows at Ronnie Scott’s and Jazz Café in London and appearing at festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz, and Primavera Sound, they have built a reputation as a must-see live act with memorable performances, including a date at London’s Alexandra Palace supporting Khruangbin on their UK/EU 2022 tour.
