mjf have built a reputation for commissioning original works to be performed at the annual festival. We work with open minded, innovative and brave musicians and artists to bring their visions to fruition.

These commissions not only show our commitment to new jazz works but they offer a unique opportunity on the UK jazz landscape for artists – the chance to devise, rehearse and premiere a major brand new work.

Over the years, and through various schemes including the Irwin Mitchell mjf originals commission, we have supported and premiered original works inspired by everything from the London 2012 Olympic Games and the poetry of Carol Ann Duffy to the US Civil Rights Movement.
