Werkha + Roller Trio

The Bread Shed

Since Werkha, aka Tom A. Leah, unleashed his debut EP Cube & Puzzle in September 2012, the release has become something of an underground sensation enjoying airplay throughout Europe, most notably from Gilles Peterson.

This led to him being recruited for remixing duties by fellow Mancunians Dutch Uncles on their single Fester, introducing his production style to a whole new audience.

Expect to hear an infectious fusion of Afrobeat, bass, house, jazz, funk and soul, bound together and brought bang up to date through contemporary electronic production that never stands still.

The evening will also be the Manchester debut for Roller Trio’s third album, New Devices, and the first time they have played mjf since 2012, the year they were nominated for a Mercury music prize.

Roller Trio like to experiment with new technology, blending it with highly energetic and expressive approaches to traditional instruments.
